  1. SHORT: an animation made with ASDG's Morph Plus

  8. First,  thank  you  for  taking the time to download TPOPT.  We know it's a
  9. large  file  and  we  hope  that  you  find  TPOPT  entertaining as well as
  10. informative.
  11.  
  12.                                Making TPOPT
  13.  
  14. This  film  was  created  entirely within ASDG's MorphPlus.  MorphPlus is a
  15. stand-alone   program   which   is   compatible  with  all  Art  Department
  16. Professional(R) modules.
  17.  
  18. The  entire  film  is  based  upon  two  static  images, one each of George
  19. Washington  from  the  one  dollar  bill,  and Ulysses Grant from the fifty
  20. dollar  bill.   The scans were made on the EPSON GT-8000 using ASDG's EPSON
  21. ES-300C driver for ADPro/MorphPlus.
  22.  
  23. Using  MorphPlus's matte making ability, all parts outside the oval of each
  24. past President were stripped away.
  25.  
  26. An  ASDG artist then spent a few moments in front of the bathroom mirror to
  27. check  on how the human face deforms as it blinks, grimmaces, concentrates,
  28. frowns, and smiles.
  29.  
  30. These  motions  were plotted in the morphing program of MorphPlus and, very
  31. quickly the individual segments of the film were created.  Each segment was
  32. considered a ``still warp.''
  33.  
  34. MorphPlus's morphing program manages four types of projects. These are:
  35.  
  36. 1.   Moving Morphs
  37.  
  38.    Two incoming streams of moving frames being merged to produce an 
  39.    output stream.
  40.  
  41. 2.   Still Morphs
  42.  
  43.    Two incoming still images being merged to produce an output 
  44.    stream.
  45.  
  46. 3.    Moving Warps
  47.  
  48.    One incoming stream of moving frames being deformed to produce
  49.    an output stream.
  50.  
  51. 4.    Still Warps
  52.  
  53.    One incoming still image being deformed to produce an output
  54.    stream.

  56. Two  frames  were  then  picked containing Washington and Grant both at the
  57. height  of  their  concentration.   These  two stills were used to create a
  58. still morph showing the benefits of positive thinking.

  60. Each component of the film now existed on a harddrive. 
  61.  
  62. We  used  FRED  as a non-linear editor to concatenate each component of the
  63. film  into  their final sequence.  Then, using FRED, we adjusted the timing
  64. so that the whole animation had a natural flow.
  65.  
  66. We  were assisted in our timing checks by previewing the animation directly
  67. in FRED.
  68.  
  69. Lastly, the entire sequence of frames were combined with the titles as they
  70. were  crunched  down  to  low  res/interlaced  4 bit-plane images and saved
  71. directly to an ANIM file right from within MorphPlus.

  73.                            Other MorphPlus Info
  74.  
  75. MorphPlus  is  a  professional  cinematic  visual  effects  package.  It is
  76. currently  in  use  in television and cinematic productions, replacing high
  77. end systems running on various platforms.

  79. For  example,  it  has  been  used for several key scenes from the pilot TV
  80. movie  Babylon 5.  At the time of this writing (October 5th), MorphPlus has
  81. been  used  for  two  other  motion  pictures,  and  is  in  use on several
  82. television shows.

  84. Other  companies  providing  morphing software on the Amiga are apt to make
  85. wild  claims about this or that, and rather than reduce our product to that
  86. level, we provide a more important measure of our product:  the opinions of
  87. noted experts in the field.

  90.    seen. Setting up a morph is very fast and rendering it is
  91.    equally as fast. I feel that this program is on par with
  92.    other programs like those from PDI and ILM."
